        <title>Rabbit Hole Daily</title>
<description>Articles about the misadventures of emigrating (by RHD contributors worldwide); recorded bi-monthly in Rome, Italy...
&lt;br&gt;
When tourists go to other countries, they have a book that prevents them from feeling like Alice, in Wonderland. But in every city in the world, there are a group of immigrants, emigrants, refugees, academics, backpackers, aid workers, expatriates, diplomats and businesspeople that don't have a book: they live down the Rabbit Hole, Daily. Every podcast (bi-monthly) starts with a story from us here in Rome, Italy. (Episodes include eclectic, sound-rich articles on: music, politics, curiosities, culture, current events, social experiment, etc.) We then move to a story from one of our contributors in another part of the world. In addition to rabbit-hole dwellers everywhere, this podcast may also be of interest to people curious about Italian culture, or people trapped in offices or long commutes who want a virtual escape!

            <itunes:summary>(EPISODE 117)

Article I: Perils of Italian Shopping, (part 2)

Article II: Left Door, Right Door (part 1)

In the first article, Bradley examines if it's possible leave one's capitalistic ways and actually enjoy shopping Italian style. Strange hours of operation, minute-by-minute changes in fashion, the need to always have exact change on hand, the nation's refusal to take credit cards and government prohibition of sales being held in stores are but a few of the obstacles one needs to overcome in order to make any simple purchase...

Then Federico, who is our Guatemalan contributor living in the United States (Alabama) recounts just how absurd the wait can get at America's modern day Ellis Island; the USCIS office. He seems to have noticed that the newly-married couples waiting to have their documents processed are slyly being divided. They are ushered into one of two office doors: happy couples without paperwork hangups (left door), and &quot;problem couples&quot;, who leave in tears (right door). Which office will he and his wife be called into?

This week's chat is also an extension of last episode's chat: a new year's inventory by Anne, Janet and Bradley of things lost and gained in the past year by immigrating to a new country.

CONGRATULATIONS!! to Federico, who became the first RHD contributor whose first language is not English. I know that speaking Italian all day for me is a challenge; podcasting in another language is really a big deal!

Article I: Misadventures in Italian Shopping, Part 1.

This is a mini-episode. Our contributors are on holiday, but we didn't want that to stop us from publishing on time!

In this episode, Bradley examines some of the things that make Italian shopping not-so-fun. (Part 2 will examine the fun parts.)

Though the episode is short, it does feature the announcement of &quot;Italian Movie Night&quot;! (This will be a bonus podcast this month) If you have suggestions for films, please drop us a line.

We've finally got the kinks worked out of chats, too. This is a super-good chat!

<itunes:subtitle>(Italy; Greece) Dieting In One Easy Step, Shirley Valentine Syndrome</itunes:subtitle>
            <itunes:summary>(EPISODE 115)

Article I: Italian Dieting in One Easy Step

Article II: Shirley Valentine Syndrome

In the first article, Bradley examines a recent study that stated that Italy is now the fifth thinnest nation in the world, while the United States kept it's title as the world's heaviest country. How do the Italians do it?! The article takes a look at a few of the probable reasons that Italy beats out even African countries on the yearly ranking, and finds the secret of Italian thin-ness.

Then the second article examines what happens when women who vacationed in Greece decide to give up the lives they were previously living and emmigrate to Greece for love. After all, lots of people go to Greece for a honeymoon (see advertisement at right), but what could be better than skipping the middleman, falling in love with a Greek and staying forever? Many women do exactly this every year. So many, in fact, that it's been identified as an actual sickness-- &quot;Shirley Valentine Syndrome&quot;.

            <itunes:summary>(EPISODE 114)

Anne Woodall brings us an article on Roman driving.

Due to technical difficulties, this episode features only one article (not the normal 2+chat) We're upgrading some equipment and will be back next time with a spiffy new full-length podcast!

This episode will NOT appear on the episode guide on the website...

As you can probably hear, the sound quality has varied a bit in some of the episodes. We keep improving, and hopefully (at least on my end) the audio will be completely uniform by the next episode.
