...handflowers...
Handflowers are also known as "slave bracelets," for they are rumored to have originated from Babylon as an asthetic and effective way to mark a slave. Mine have clasps on the inside of the wrist, but originally, once they were on you were stuck, unless you felt like cutting off your hand. Delightful, eh?
I made a slave-bracelet for my friend Allison, to match one worn by the protagonist in her sci-fi novel. You can see it at her site, Jedibubbles.com. Definitely one of the top three hardest things I've ever done, as I tried to stick to her design. It took me many hours of frustration, and I decided that I would make no more that were not beaded all the way through, unless I found a way of making beads stay in place on monofilament without knotting the monofilament 80 million times. I will have completely beaded handflowers made soon, hopefully.
